Controlling the pointer with the numeric keypad If you have difficulty using the mouse, you can turn on Mouse Keys. With Mouse Keys, you can use the numeric keypad to move the pointer and click items on the screen. For example, press the 5 key on the numeric keypad to click an item on the screen, or press the 0 key to display the choices on a pull-down menu. To turn on Mouse Keys: Choose Apple menu System Preferences, click Universal Access, and then click Mouse.

When you click the Right Button, it can be a little bit difficult to predict. Buy a separate mouse. Mac makes its own mouse for this - the Magic Mouse (and its predecessor the Mighty Mouse), which doesn't appear to have two buttons, but can be programmed so that the right-hand side responds like a second button. If you don't want to buy a Mac mouse, any two button mouse can be programmed to work with a right click on a Mac.

When Mouse Keys is turned on, you can’t use the numeric keypad to enter numbers in a document. Sorry to bring this up again, but believe it or not. I'm still trying! You see, this is one of the things that would minimize my use of mouse tremendously! And I'm just so into that! Here's what I've been looking for: S. Cut/ Action 8 Move Up 2 Move Down 4 Move Left 6 Move Right 1, 3, 7, and 9 Move Diagonally 5 Press Mouse Button 0 Hold Mouse Button.
(period on keypad) Release Mouse Button (use after pressing 0) What I need is the short-cut (5) which doesn't work on Macbooks. I'M assuming that's because you need a numeric keypad number 5, which doesn't exist on Macbooks. I've been trying to find a replacement for that in a long while now, but failed so far. I'm just hoping someone who's been through this can help! I think the latest reply on the (F6) has something to do with this, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.
I pressed on F6, but I don't think anything happened honestly. Click to expand.Well, I wouldn't say 'senseless'; I'm an 'almost 100%' every-thing-keyboard user. And the word 'almost' comes from moments like this: On Safari, I click 'Cmd + Opt + F' to go to the search bar, and search for the word 'iLeo'.

Now results appear from google. I use the 'Down' arrow to navigate through the page, and because I've activated 'Full control access', as I scroll down the page each google link gets highlighted when the mouse crosses on it. So all i need to do is to 'hit a button' to click on it. THAT's the button I'm looking for.
Which should be the equivalent of number 5 on the numeric keypad! And THAT's one of the very few times I have to take my hands off the keyboard and click on the track pad! In the log in to account screen (after you boot up) how do I use the keyboard to select the account I want log in to?

(My 2008 MacBook touchpad select-button / mouse-click only works at the very bottom 2/3 of the way from the left - and even though I have tap to click turned on that doesn't activate until after login.) I tried tab and all kinds of command, option, alt, control with/without shift and some of the once-you're-logged-in keyboard shortcuts but could not get any of the accounts to be selected for login. ChristianJ101 Have you replaced your battery yet? It shouldn't protrude unless it's swollen. That may restore your trackpad. (Bad batteries can swell and prevent proper operation and maybe damage things too.) If you can remove the battery (my ancient MacBook lets me do that in seconds) and run with power cord that may work too. Beyond that, I recommend for temporary use, get/borrow an external mouse. That should at least get you logged in so you can change the trackpad to enable tap to click, although, like me, tap to click still doesn't work for the select account to log in to screen.
