I've written a Windows batch file that creates 3 more instance contexts for Smart Graphics XPanels, making a total of 4 instances available to use simultaneously. It works by copying the existing XPanel folder from the Program Files Crestron folder 3 times, then updates the application.xml file in the new folders with new id keys, and then updates your registry to enable the new contexts on both.VTZ and.C3P files. The batch file is well commented and you can verify there is no funny business before running it. Of note, it makes use of PowerShell, which my antivirus thought was suspicious, but I just told it to ignore it.
Save it to your desktop, right click on it and run it as Administrator. It will not work otherwise. Then you can right click on any VTZ/C3P file and you will see Open, Instance 2, Instance 3, and Instance 4. All 4 instances have separate host settings which are saved across uses so you can close and reopen an instance and it will keep your settings.
If you have any problems with the script, let me know. It should work for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 and higher.
Steps for adding the Crestron iPod controller to an existing 2 series system (I'll have a go later if I have time). Add the two iPod IP modules to the system in SIMPL (free.) Add the Ipod interface to the logic of the system and connect it up (free.) Design a touch panel that works properly on the iPod (free.) - you can reuse an existing design Download the iPod app (choose between the free or paid ones) and start controlling the system How to use an iPod to control an AMX system. BUY an NXV-300 virtual touch panel (£?) and install it Design a touch panel and upload it to your newly purchased virtual touch panel device BUY a specific VNC app for each iPod (£15) Enjoy non-native control at VNC speeds. Am I the only one who fails to see how this can be described as ahead of the game. The reason AMX have an iPad touchpanel 'already' is because they don't actually have one? You could probably buy a cheap netbook for the price of an NXV-300, install e-Control, or the AMX equivalent, and then use a remote desktop app on the iPod/Pad instead. I wouldn't hold your breath for flash appearing in iphone OS apparently apple and adobe have fallen out with apple thinking that flash is too much of a bloated system hog to be let loose on the platform.
There was a story on apple insider about flash using upto 80% of the cpu in certain situations on windows and osx and it being the main culprit for alot of IE and safari crashes As for multitasking apparently thats coming in iphone OS4.0 Crestron,AMX and control4 need to up there game on the touchscreens as apple is really putting them to shame with the user experience you can create on the device. Will the ipad replace them probably not for a variety of different reasons including that apple is not interested one iota in the home automation market The only real problem i have with the ipad or iphone as a home automation controller is that wifi really isnt robust enough as a control medium. Click to expand.I agree with Crestron Boy on both his first and last posts, although the real reason Apple don't want Adobe within their software is because Apple is protecting revenue streams derived from content like movies and games. If users could watch free TV shows on iPlayer or Hulu, they wouldnt buy them through iTunes. I also agree on reports of poor wireless performance. There's also the issue that it's running a phone OS, and there is not sure thing as Kiosk Mode (ie locked in full screen). Whilst I agree that its a very shiny toy, I think most customers wanting a more cost effective option than expensive touch-panels would be better off using one of the many upcoming (or existing) Windows Tablet PCs, in Kiosk Mode.
Crestron, AMX, etc).
